There are many reasons why we carry extra weight.  Look around.  Count how many fast food places you drive by in a single day.  Many things on those restaurant items pack a huge punch of mega calories - 540 calories and 29 grams of fat!  The average amount of fat intake for someone who wants to MAINTAIN their weight is 30 grams of fat PER DAY.  Imagine that you had fries with that - add french fries - another 248 calories and 15 grams of fat.  In order to burn the calories from the burger, you would need to walk for over three hours, jog for one hour, swim for 45 minutes or bike ride for two hours.  Most of us just do not get that kind of exercise in during a single day.  I am no different than anyone else out there.  I despise exercise and I could stand to lose some weight.  I have been on and off "diet" since about age 9.   The end result is it takes me longer to lose weight and it is much more difficult.  The good news is that it can be done, you just need to make small changes everyday that will fit your lifestyle as a whole and help you to lose that weight safely and gradually.  I know You want to lose weight now!  You want that magic pill... well, sadly, there is no magic pill.  It takes some dedication and a little hard work, but the pay offs are enormous.
